The requirement was to replace an existing structure. It was a shop we had; it was a timber frame shop that burnt down, and we chose steel.

My name’s Jim, and we have been working with MSC for about three months now. They started about six months ago with the custom steel structure bid, and started the shop about a month ago. You can see where it’s at this stage.

I think the single biggest thing is the longevity—just having something that’s more resilient to the weather. Also, the erection time was noteworthy. This metal structure went up in probably two weeks, three weeks maybe, which was incredible. It was really nice to get something erected before the winter. A similar pre-engineered structure in another material (say wood) would have probably taken months, six months maybe.

We first had a wood frame quote, and then I looked at a couple of metal structure vendors. MSC is the one we chose. Steve’s an excellent communicator, and we felt comfortable with him, which is why we’re super glad we did.

MSC was also the lowest price for this quote, which was quite nice. The final cost came in exactly as estimated, which was obviously very helpful. We did expect that there might be some overages, but Steve seemed to get it under control and get it done under budget!

I would 100% recommend MSC for a project. Like I say, the communication’s there — and it’s beautiful, which is so important, and of course, the quality of work’s top-notch.
