Why Steel? Do Your Homework Before Purchasing a Pre-Engineered Steel Building

A pre-engineered steel building can be customized with special finishes for a number of commercial enterprises.

When starting a new commercial enterprise, business managers, owners and CEOs often have to make a decision on whether to lease or buy a space for their operations. Both have their pros and cons, however, there is another choice that can be considered. You could consider building from scratch. All it takes is finding the right property and the right building to suit your needs. Not all buildings are the same. Careful building planning and exhaustive research is needed. But if you are looking for a sustainable, cost-effective and durable facility, then you may want to consider a pre-engineered steel building.

Here’s why.

It makes dollars and sense:

Steel building prices and components can fluctuate depending on the current market for steel. Although steel tends to be higher in cost than lumber, the overall benefits of building with steel outweigh the initial purchase price. As the components for pre-engineered steel buildings are prefabricated, on-site labour costs are decreased, as it requires fewer construction workers to put the pieces together. Other factors that keep steel costs in line include:

  • Easy to install
  • Less construction waste
  • Fewer delays
  • Not as many sub-contractors needed
  • No hidden costs
  • Less repairs/maintenance needed down the road

A stitch in time saves nine:

The speed in which a pre-engineered steel building can be erected is weeks compared to months under traditional construction. Once a design is decided upon and engineering reports and permits completed, all the general contractor has to do is order the parts and components from the steel manufacturer. The foundation can be laid during this time, so once everything is prefabricated in the plant and then delivered, the assembly crew can erect the building using step-by-step instructions. It’s that easy.

Strong as an ox:

The durability of steel isn’t surprising, considering its made out of iron ore. Despite its strength, steel is a lightweight material compared to wood and takes up less space because of its hallowed shape. Steel is more fire, insect and weather resistant and is not as susceptible to mold. It also does not twist, warp or rot.

Customized from the start:

Once considered for industrial applications, steel buildings are becoming more popular for both commercial and residential purposes. These are not your garden shed variety buildings, but can be customized to suit a number of applications and it’s easy enough to add an office or a secondary building if expansion is needed. Customized finishes can also be added to the walls, roof, trimmings and doors. Those needing added space can also opt for a clear-span frame if a large open space is desired.

Commercial buildings that can be customized include:

  • Automotive shop
  • Storage facility
  • Warehouse
  • Arena
  • Hangar
