3 Ways Steel Buildings Can Be Used for Recreation

Steel buildings help protect all kinds of equipment when it's not in use.

At first glance, steel buildings and recreation probably don’t seem like a natural fit. However, their widespread popularity and versatile range of applications, along with their ability to blend in with a variety of settings, means these structures lend themselves well to outdoor pursuits across BC.

From parks to ponies, custom steel buildings are a lot more common than you think. Here are a few examples:

1. Golf Courses

Groundskeeping is a major component of golf course maintenance. It requires a vast array of utility vehicles and other specialized equipment to keep those fairways, greens, and bunkers in pristine condition. This includes:

  • Mowers
  • Sprayers
  • Rollers
  • Top dressers
  • Aerators

There’s also a range of irrigation equipment, fertilizers, and other hand tools that all need to be stored somewhere when not in use. Steel buildings are a popular choice, as they’re sturdy enough to withstand the elements, yet attractive enough to blend in seamlessly with the country club surroundings.

Of course, golf carts are also common to golf courses. Whether you’re storing them for private members or they’re part of your rental fleet, steel buildings are a great choice if you want to protect these valuable assets from the elements and provide secure storage.

2. Park Facilities

Similar to golf courses, public parks require ongoing landscaping and maintenance in order to keep them looking great. Many branches of government, from local to federal, prefer to use pre-engineered and/or structural steel buildings, as they’re a cost-effective choice for storing the supplies and equipment needed for the job. You’ve got to keep taxpayers happy, right!

Many parks also feature public facilities to enhance the user experience, including:

  • Picnic shelters
  • Bathrooms
  • Visitor information centres

The versatility of these structures means you can build anything from a basic open-sided shelter to one that’s fully insulated for year-round use.

3. No Horsing Around

Horse owners tend to be very particular about their steeds and the way in which they’re cared for. Whether it’s a prized thoroughbred racehorse, highly skilled Hanoverian dressage horse, or simply a much-loved pet, they demand the best possible stables and riding facilities.

The customizable aspect of steel means you can design a stable and riding arena to accommodate any number of horses, and outfit it with the amenities that you prefer, including:

  • Tack rooms
  • Feed storage
  • Foaling stalls
  • Public bathrooms
  • Stadium seating

With a covered riding arena, you can practice year-round without having to contend with spring downpours, scorching summer sun or winter snowfall.
