Looking Back at 2017: Steel Buildings Rise Up Around Western Canada

MSC has been busy this past year installing steel buildings for Grohman Mini Storage Ltd. in Nelson, BC.

It’s been quite the year at Metal Structure Concepts (MSC), as we continue to build on our portfolio of designing, supplying and installing steel buildings throughout Western Canada. And that trend looks to continue as pre-engineered steel buildings retain their popularity in commercial, industrial, and other non-residential construction, and steel building prices remain affordable.

Before we look ahead, let’s look back at some of the projects MSC has worked on this past year:

CVRD Leachate Plant

No strangers to supplying steel buildings for industrial uses, MSC assisted fellow Kelowna contractors Maple Reinders Inc. in finalizing the design and installing a 4,900 square-foot, two-part leachate treatment facility for the Comox Valley Regional District on Vancouver Island. Customized to fit a 3-ton monorail crane, with other finishes, the building is now in operation, with the team at MSC being recognized by Maple Reinders for its due diligence and attention to safety.

Grohman Mini Storage Ltd.

MSC has been all over BC this past year, including in Nelson, where it has been designing and installing a multi-building package for this mini storage business.  This includes a mix of commercial steel buildings, including a warehouse.

Grohman owners George Anderson and Dan Bayoff had this to say about the work completed: “Our experience working with MSC was very good. They really care about the work that they do, and the customer service was excellent. Both the steel mini storage buildings and the pre-engineered steel building were quality buildings and were installed on time and on budget.

Ag-Vision: Dynamic Seeds

When this Fairview, Alberta-based company, which processes and sells both crop seeds and native grasses, needed a steel building for its seed washing operation installed right away, MSC met the challenge.

“We fast-tracked the project,” said MSC owner Steve Ivanitz. “It usually takes a couple of months from the time we start talking to the time we start building, but for Dynamic Seeds, it only took a week for the contracts to be signed and for us to get building. We were on the site for 15 days and then we were out of their hair.”

Northwest Precast

This project in Lloydminster, SK. showed how structural steel and concrete mix. In this case, MSC installed a 16,000 sq. ft. building, built in two parts. The first part involved designing a 40-ft.-high clear span shop and warehouse to fit a 20-ton crane, while the second part involved connecting the existing building to the new building, with some custom tie-in work. Due to the speed and efficiency of the build, Northwest Precast was able to continue its operations while the building was being installed.

Fountain Tire

Metal Structure Concepts (MSC) is becoming known for its custom steel buildings, including those built for Fountain Tire in Valleyview, AB. Hired by general contractor H2P Projects Inc. to supply and erect a new garage for a Fountain Tire, it had to meet the general contractor’s instructions, which included a larger-than-normal truck canopy as well as a specific colour scheme. MSC’s economical steel buildings and attention to detail so impressed H2P Projects Inc., the company is in the process of hiring MSC again for another one of its projects.

Metal Structure Concepts prides itself in the unequalled level of value-added service in the pre-engineered steel building industry it has completed across Western Canada and beyond. We look forward to continuing on this success, and thank our clients, past and present, for their business and support.
