Welcome to 2024: What to Expect from Steel Building Manufacturers MSC

This steel building for Grohman Mini Storage in Nelson, BC, is a prime example of the versatility and excellence we bring to the table that results in repeat customers. Grohman now has 19 buildings on site for a total of 70,000 square feet!

Hello, Western Canada! We hope everyone had a wonderful holiday. We were able to spend invaluable time with our loved ones and catch up on some much-needed rest. To kick things off, we sat down with Steve and Corey Ivanitz, co-owners of MSC, to get a sneak peek at what the steel buildings industry has in store, what to expect from the company, and share their goals for the new year.

What to expect from MSC in 2024

As a baseline, both Steve and Corey want to be clear that what people love—and what they love—about MSC will always be there. That means trust, reliability, and responsiveness.

MSC will always go the extra mile for our customers—literally. Corey says it best: “We’ll jump in a pickup truck and drive eight hours just to shake your hand,” said Corey. “We’re excited to meet you and take care of you. There is heart and effort behind every sale.”

So, let’s look at what 2024 has in store for our pre-engineered metal building company:

Five goals for our MSC in 2024

1. Maintain a high level of customer service

At MSC, we hold ourselves to a very high standard when it comes to our customers, and that comes from the top down. “Customer service is always our goal,” says Corey. This year will be no different, and you can expect us to meet our goal of providing the best customer service the steel buildings industry has to offer thanks to a highly skilled staff and network of partners.

2. Streamline office operations

The MSC headquarters have been reorganized and streamlined to keep us operating at peak performance. We’ll be keeping on top of timelines and project management, and staff have been allocated with clear objectives to keep them on track. Our goal is to continue that efficiency into this year.

“Everyone is excited for what they’re doing in 2024. It’s great to see,” says Steve.

3. Diversification and new, northern opportunities

Our steel building company services many industries extremely well, including agriculture, mining, home shops, commercial buildings, retail, and more—but we’re always keeping an eye out for something new.

“We’re always open to new opportunities,” says Corey. “We love to work on exciting new projects, meet new people, and hope to see more of that kind of diversification this year.”

Northern regions like the Yukon are one place that Steve expects MSC to branch into more this year.

4. Continue investing in Alberta

Last year, we expanded into Alberta, and Corey has taken the reins on the division. For 2024, expect to see us continue to nurture that growth through face-to-face meetings, relationship building, and understanding client needs in the region.

“I’m excited for the future here,” says Corey. “We’ve done a lot of work in Alberta and Saskatchewan over the years, but for me to be boots on the ground is important to me.”

We delve deeper into the Alberta expansion below in this blog.

5. New products and quality materials

Our final goal this year is to stay on top of emerging products in order to continue to provide the highest quality materials to our clients. “Even if the cost is sometimes higher, it’s a worthwhile investment for our clients,” Corey explains. “We want people to have the longevity those better quality materials can provide.”

Innovations and trends

Stable interest rates mean high productivity

After a long period of rising interest rates leading to stalls or shifts in the construction industry, we’re entering a period of stability. “Interest rates are settling, and with that, we’re seeing a productive time ahead for our industry,” Steve predicts.

Insulated metal panels

"More and more, we’re seeing the use of insulated metal panels on our projects, and we love to see it," Steve explains.

These panels are a superior product that allows us to erect buildings in extreme cold. They are durable, have a superior R-value (insulation value), and allow us to meet building code requirements easily.

Insulated metal panels are also a smart investment for your metal building as they require less maintenance and are more durable than other forms of insulation.

“When we work in northern Canada, we try to encourage clients to go with insulated metal panels because they're a superior product,” Steve explains. “A building is an investment, and we’re helping our clients to build a quality real estate investment that will require less long-term maintenance.”

Insulated metal panels are more than a cold weather star. The same technology that makes them excellent in extreme cold also makes them excel at temperature control. That’s why you’ll find them further south in BC for projects like temperature-regulated steel buildings

Projects like Farming Karma Fruit Company rely on stable temperatures to increase the life of their crop.

Exciting growth in the north

Northern BC and the Yukon are two places where MSC is excited to be seeing projects pick up this year, a 14,000 square-foot commercial/industrial shop in Fort St. John, in Northern BC.

“We’re excited to be headed back to Fort St. John to work on a new project for a repeat client,” Steve says.

MSC also has multiple projects lined up in the Yukon for 2024, something Steve attributes, in part, to the steel building company’s use of insulated metal panels.

“They’re a superior form of insulation all around, but especially in the extreme cold like the north,” he explains. Further south, the panels also shine for cold storage and atmosphere-controlled metal buildings

The Alberta expansion

After expanding into Alberta last year and relocating, Corey is excited about the connections he’s going to create with the Prairies.

“I’m looking forward to meeting new clients, building deeper relationships, and beginning to see repeat customers throughout Alberta and Saskatchewan,” he says.

His move was critical in putting boots on the ground to gain a greater understanding of what the industry needs are in Alberta and how he can help.

Corey’s looking forward to fostering relationships within the mining, power, gas, agriculture, and commercial industries, but is, of course, excited for any unexpected project that he can help tackle.

“It’s really about fostering long-term relationships no matter the industry and building trust with our clients,” he says. “That way, we can be their trusted builder and supplier of steel buildings, simplify the process, and help them realize their vision.”

Looking forward to 2024
