Demand for Metal Buildings Surges in the Okanagan
Country RV is one of seven Okanagan businesses to order pre engineered metal buildings from MSC.
There are certainly benefits to working close to home, especially when you live in the Okanagan. More time with friends and family. More time playing in a natural paradise. Metal Structure Concepts (MSC), a Kelowna-based company that specializes in pre engineered metal buildings, is enjoying those perks more and more of late.
In the last year, MSC has experienced a resurgence of local work, with a slate of contracts across the valley, ranging from Penticton to Vernon. Currently, the metal building company has seven projects at various stages of completion in the area.
“Our phone’s ringing, and we’re getting a lot of local work,” says Steve Ivanitz, founder and owner of MSC. “Our name is out there and we’re developing a great customer base for repeat business and word-of-mouth advertising.
“Plus, the general economy is busy right now.”
An eighth job, an expansion for Country RV in Kelowna (MSC also built the original buiding), is scheduled to start in November.
Prominent Businesses Requesting Metal Buildings
Many of the clients asking for prefab buildings are well-known entities in the Okanagan, some of which include:
- Valley Pool & Spa, Kelowna
- Nor-Val Equipment Rentals, West Kelowna
- Storage Bear, West Kelowna
- Okanagan College, Penticton
- Sandhu Orchards, Kelowna
Up in Vernon, Okanagan Spirits has commissioned MSC to build a 27,000-square-foot storage facility on Waddington Drive.
Nor-Val Equipment Rentals, which has locations in Vernon, Armstrong and Lake Country, recently opened a new branch in West Kelowna. Owner Jim Clifferton had MSC repurpose an older warehouse he had acquired, making it new again. The project called for new sheeting, cladding and insulation, as well as other improvements to bring it up to code.
Repeat Business
Of the local companies seeking MSC’s services, many of them are repeat customers, including Country RV, Sandhu Orchards and Storage Bear, which is opening a second set of self-storage units in West Kelowna.
Sandhu Orchards is building a new wood-frame building with metal sheeting along Lakeshore Drive in Kelowna, making it the third project MSC has done for them.
“We take care of our clients,” says Ivanitz. “Sometimes we have to go out of our way to make it work, but we continually receive testimonials when we’re done a project.”

Hands-on Management
From an operational standpoint, Ivanitz says one of the benefits of working closer to home is that he can visit the job sites more frequently. MSC takes on projects across Western Canada, often in remote locations, so that isn’t always the case.
